The SCREWLINE screw vacuum pump was developed to meet the special requirements of industrial applications. When a reliable, compact and easy-to-maintain vacuum solution is needed, the innovatively designed SP series screw pumps are the first choice.
Operating principle
The screw vacuum pump is a dry-compressing backing pump whose operation is based on the screw principle. Two synchronously rotating, intermeshing screw rotors and the surrounding housing form the pumping chamber of the pump. The two rotors rotate in opposite directions, so the enclosed suction space is transported steadily from the pump inlet to the discharge port, completing the pumping action. The screws are machined in one piece and use a variable pitch design with internal stage-by-stage compression. The wetted parts of the pump have a simple structure with few components, which simplifies maintenance and repair work.
Performance
Because the gas path through the screw pump is short and simple, the screw vacuum pump is largely insensitive to ingested foreign matter. This ensures longer system uptime under industrial operating conditions.
The two non-contacting shaft seals are of wear-free design, resulting in very long maintenance intervals. For standard applications, no purge gas protection is required. If the process requires it, however, a purge gas system can be connected as an option to purge the seals.
Because the screw vacuum pump rotors use a cantilever bearing arrangement, a potential source of failure (bearings on the inlet side) is completely eliminated. On the one hand, bearing lubricant cannot enter the vacuum chamber; on the other, corrosive process media cannot damage the bearings.
Another advantage of the cantilever bearing arrangement is that the pumping chamber can be opened easily and conveniently. This innovative design allows the pump housing to be opened without time-consuming removal of the bearings. As a result, all medium-contacting internal surfaces can be cleaned on site. Especially where the process involves large amounts of contaminants, this advantage ensures long, trouble-free pump operation.
A low exhaust temperature is an important advantage of the SP screw vacuum pumps. Thanks to the special design of the screw rotors, the temperature inside the SP pump never exceeds 100℃ (212℉). This prevents deposits of substances that many media would form in reactions at high temperatures. This is a unique feature of the pump that many customers in the coating industry value highly.
Should deposits form nevertheless, the easy-to-remove housing allows quick cleaning.
The SCREWLINE screw vacuum pump has oil circulation inside the rotor shaft, while a fan cools the oil heat exchanger and the housing externally; this achieves a uniform temperature balance throughout the pump, making it particularly suitable for varying operating conditions and ambient environments.
The SP 630F is the water-cooled version, suitable for use in air-conditioned rooms.
The SCREWLINE screw vacuum pump series includes ATEX-certified versions
The SCREWLINE screw vacuum pump series also includes a version for pumping pure oxygen (O2).
Maintenance and monitoring
The design concept of the SP screw vacuum pump specifically takes ease of maintenance into account. This is achieved through the cantilever bearing arrangement and by locating all maintenance components and controls on the service side for easy access. The space required in the planning stage is thus optimised, and the small footprint of the SP gives users greater flexibility during pump installation.
The SP-GUARD monitoring system continuously monitors the operating status of the screw vacuum pump in real time; operating parameters are continuously acquired and processed, so users can take preventive measures at an early stage and ensure trouble-free operation of the screw vacuum pump. Key operating parameters can be read on the display on the pump, and remote monitoring is possible when connected to a PLC. Maintenance of the screw vacuum pump is limited to regular visual inspection and replacement of the gear oil and oil filter every 2.5 years.
Using the flushing kit (optional accessory), the pump chamber can be cleaned when the pump is not in process operation, quickly and effectively removing process deposits without dismantling the pump housing. The air/oil heat exchanger can be cleaned simply by blowing compressed air through it on site.
Accessories
SP screw vacuum pumps offer users a high degree of flexibility. The inlet and exhaust ports can be connected with standard flanges or clamped flanges, enabling simple integration into the system. With the appropriate accessories, the pump can be ideally adapted to applications with different requirements.
